Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Pat Outlaw Cooper, in 2002; his second wife, Ann Lewis, in 2019; his daughter, Carmen Lamm, in 2016; brothers, J.B., Horace and Eddie Jr.; and sister Ernestine Poythress.
He is survived by his daughters, Jan Cooper (Bob) of Henderson and Angie Murray (Billy) of Fuquay Varina; a sister, Mozelle Taylor of Wilson; a son-in-law, Clarence Lamm of Newton; four grandchildren; Celeste Peel, Robin Murray, Samantha Dudley and Ramona Lamp; ten great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Harold began his career as a salesman for Wilson & Co. and Wilson Foods which spanned 52 years before retiring at age 77. In 1972, he was awarded Wilson & Co.’s most outstanding salesman of the year for the United States. In his younger years, he was Captain of the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department, serving for 14 years.
Sports was always Harold’s passion including baseball and basketball (Duke). However, his greatest joy was playing golf with friends at Happy Valley and Wedgewood.
The family extends their gratitude to his friends at the Landing as well as the wonderful staff. Their friendship was cherished by him and he so enjoyed playing bingo, doing line dancing, and just socializing with the residents. The care and concern of the staff and his friends will forever be remembered by the family. We thank you and love you.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21st, at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, Wilson, with the family receiving visitors and friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
