Jean Henry Jones, age 86, passed away May 15, 2024. She was born October 11, 1937 in Nash County to the late James Cody Henry and Mary Etta Womble Henry and was also predeceased by her husband James Martin Jones.
Jean was a life-long nurse. She worked in Wilson for Dr. Robert Sloop at the Wilson Clinic for many years. She loved her work and her patients. She was a graduate of Chowan College, attended one year at ECU and was a graduate of the Wilson School of Nursing where she met her beloved “Butch” Jones and married. Even after retirement, she nursed her husband, who had Alzheimer’s, for 16 years in their home. She loved to shop, she loved to travel with Butch before his retirement, and she loved vacations with her family especially when her grand boys were born; they were her most precious joy.
Left to cherish her memory is her son James Martin Jones, Jr. and his wife Julia of Jamestown, her daughter Mary Catherine Jones of Raleigh, two grandchildren Whit Jones and Cooper Jones both of Chapel Hill.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday May 29, 2024 at 3 PM in the chapel of Thomas – Yelverton Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
