George Clayton Howard September 1, 1928 – July 9, 2017 George Clayton Howard, 88, of Wilson, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Grace Baptist Church, 202 Kincaid Ave. N, Wilson, NC. The Rev. Steve Strickland will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash St. N, Wilson. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, at Grace Baptist Church. George was born in Wilson County, NC to the late Nixon and Mamie Howard. He retired as Captain of the Wilson Fire Department in 1987. George was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. George is survived by his wife of 69 years, Daisy Howell Howard; his sons, Mike Howard and wife, Bettina, and Darrin Howard and wife, Tarla; grandchildren, Clayton Howard and wife, Nikki, Brandon Howard, Jordan Howard, Bryson Howard and Logan Howard; a step-grandson, Trey Flowers; great-grandchildren, George Howard and Riley Howard; and his brother, Ervin Howard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 200 Kincaid Ave. N, Wilson, NC 27893. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, Wilson, NC.
