Elizabeth T. Barrett January 1, 1919 – September 4, 2016 Elizabeth Teresa Nassef Barrett, 97, of Raleigh, known to all as “Libby”, passed away September 4, 2016 following a brief illness. Libby was born January 1, 1919, in New Bern, the third of five children born to John and Nettie George Nassef. Her parents were born in Lebanon; they met and married in New Bern. Libby lived her life in New Bern, Wilson, and Raleigh. In 1957, she married Charles H. “Red” Barrett, a retired major league baseball player who pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Braves. He died in 1990. Libby and her son, Richard J. Barrett, established the annual Charles “Red” Barrett Memorial Golf Tournament in Wilson, which raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for WilMed Hospice over the last 21 years. On June 13th, Libby and her family were present for the dedication of the Charles “Red” Barrett Hospice Suite at Wilson Medical Center. Before moving to Raleigh in 2000, she was an active member of The Church of St. Therese in Wilson. Surviving are her son, Rick and his wife, Pam, and their children, Spencer and Lindsey, all of Raleigh; her sister, Josephine Nassef Melvin, of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Red” Barrett; her parents; one sister; and two brothers. A Memorial Mass will be conducted 10:00 a.m.,Thursday, September 8, 2016, at The Church of St. Therese, 700 Nash St. NE, Wilson. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash St. N, Wilson. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Libby’s name may be made to WilMed Hospice, 1705 Tarboro St. SW, Wilson, NC 27893.
