He was the son of Guthrie C. Holt and Lydia Vines Holt and had 9 siblings.
He is survived by his wife Alicia W. Holt of 46 years; Two sons, Richard W. Holt, wife Angie of Wilmington, NC, Franklin G. Holt, wife Tori of Hampstead, NC ; Three grandchildren: Julia and Hayden Holt and Holly Gilliam, Papa had a special relationship with each grandchild; Sister and Brother-in-law, Debra and Alan Roberson of Alexandria, Va. Billy and his brother –in-law enjoyed many exploring adventures together. In addition he grew up as “brother” to the Stewart girls: Sarah, Ann, Kate and Frankie Jones. He was Frankie’s special “older” brother. Also by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a member of the Navy serving on the mine sweeper, USS Fearless .
Billy was a retired Carolina Beach Volunteer Fireman. He had several “unofficial” adopted sons of the Carolina Beach Fire Department, who he visited often. He also had a special coffee drinking buddy, Paul Navarro, joined by Missy, the family cat.
As a teenager, he started his working history with Britt’s Donut Shop. He was employed with Babcock and Wilcox Co. and Cogentrix of Southport. He most recently worked with Jeff’s Pool Service of Carolina Beach.
In retirement, due to his work ethics, he continued with various jobs with close friends.
Graveside Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
Following the service, Military Honors will be officiated by the American Legion Post 10 Honor Guard .
Visitation will follow at the family home in Carolina Beach.
