William Jack Auten

William Jack Auten, 84, of Wilmington went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 13, 2012. Jack was born on November 10, 1927 to Ruth Estridge and Robert Auten in Charlotte.

Jack moved with his family from his birthplace in Charlotte, NC in 1961. He was a proud graduate of Charlotte Tech High School, where he was a member of the Class of ’48. Jack played football, baseball, and basketball for Tech. Carolina basketball and the Atlanta Braves were his teams of choice and golf was a real passion.

Jack was a salesman for years in his work and traveled to NC and SC. He was a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church and the Omega Sunday School Class.

Jack is survived by his wife Jean Doster Auten, daughter Karen Moriarty, Iowa; sons, Kim (Cindy) of Wilmington and Ken of Memphis, TN; his beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Shephard (Jon), Caroline and Christopher Auten; and great-grandchildren Austin and Chloe Shephard; brother-in-law, Charles Doster of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11:30 AM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel with Pastor Chuck Love officiating. The family will receive guests following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Pine Valley Baptist Church.
