Mr. Walter Leroy Baker, 84, of Hampstead, NC died July 12, 2022. He was born October 15, 1937 to Walter Leroy Baker Sr. and Alberta Tomlinson Baker.
Walter graduated from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Barbara Mahoney in 1963. Walter began his engineering career with the military guided missiles program, followed by NASA Apollo launch and lunar landing program, and then he transferred to GE nuclear fuel in Wilmington, NC. He voluntarily served on both New Hanover and Pender County planning boards. Walter enjoyed traveling to many counties and volunteering with ELFUN Service Program throughout the United States.
Mr. Walter is survived by his wife Barbara Baker; sons, Timothy P. Baker and wife Celeste and Michael J. Baker and wife Terri and grandchildren Kelsey, Sean and Micah.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service. A Mass will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Basilica of Saint Mary.
