Thomas was born in Lynchburg, VA on May 4, 1940, son of the late David W. Wright, Managing Editor of Lynchburg Daily News, and Nellie H. Wright. He is also preceded in death by son, Thomas G. Wright, Jr., sister Marianne Paris of Lynchburg, VA and brother David W Wright of Broomfield, CO.
Survived by wife Jane E Wright, formerly of Lynchburg, VA. Daughter Robinn Neveu (Wesley- Husband) of Mobile, AL Daughter Laura White (Keith-Husband) of Carolina Beach, NC. Daughter in Law Carrie Wright of Garner, NC and 4 Grandchildren (Sarah Gwin, Nicole Hernandez, Troy White, Mason Wright) and 3 great grandchildren. (Josiah Hernandez, Noah Hernandez, Amelia Gwin)
Survived by Sister Marguerite White of Virginia Beach, VA. Brother Michael Wright (Joan-wife) of Forrest, Va. Sister-in-law Bettie Wright of Broomfield CO
Hobbies were his love for reading, golf, and fishing. In his early years he played football and wrote the sports column for the local news. He coached little league baseball and basketball and was also a volunteer mentor for the Literary Society Member of the American Legion Hampstead Post 167. Tom also loved to travel, listen to Jazz and watch Notre Dame.
Achievements he was most proud of included 60 years of marriage to wife Jane, 3 children that gave him 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as well as graduating Magna Cum Laude from Golden Gate University at the age of 48 with a bachelor’s in management, after 30 years in the Military.
Tom graduated from EC Glass High School, Lynchburg VA in 1958 and directly enlisted in the Navy. He completed Naval Training in San Diego, CA and started his 20-year active-duty career in Norfolk, VA. He was deployed on the USS Roosevelt and ended 20 years of active duty in 1978 as a Chief Aviation Electronics Technician. He continued 10 years as a Reserve while entering civilian life. Work included government contracting as Foreman for 11 years at Superior Engineering & Electronics in Norfolk, Va. He was later employed at a high-tech computer training center involving all armed services war game simulations. He also worked as an analyst researching Tank and Personnel carrier accidents for the Army Safety Center in Fort Rucker, AL and taught Electronics at ITT Technical Institute in Norfolk, VA
Tom moved to Coastal Plantation, Hampstead NC in 2005.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 11:30am to 1:00pm at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 2:00pm at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
Pall Bearers will be: Michael Wright, Wesley Neveu, Keith White, Troy White and Mason Wright.
