Thomas “Tom” Walker Borland Jr., 65, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Center. He was born in Salisbury, NC on April 12, 1947 to Margaret Rudisill and the late Thomas “Tom” Walker Borland.
Tom was well loved by all that knew him because of his giving spirit and loving heart. Mr. Borland was a graduate of Darlington School in Rome, GA, he then went on to graduate from NC State University’s School of Textile Technology, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Tom was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed sailing, fishing, and hunting.
Through the years Tom’s occupation in the textile industry afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the country and internationally. Upon relocating to Connecticut he enjoyed working in Real Estate Sales.
In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his wife; Kate Thoresen Borland, son; Walker Borland, daughter; Katie Borland, sister; Rudy Koehler and husband David, nieces, and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Home in Wilmington. A private family service will be held on a later date.
