Sarah Flynn Richards Scruggs, 86, of Pender County, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2013. She was born on January 8, 1927 in Pender County, to the late Wallace Lee Richards and Flynn Horrell Richards.
Sarah was a loving and caring person who loved cooking for her family, gospel music, and traveling in her younger years and fellowship with friends and family. She attended Long Creek Grady School in her youth and was a member of Gibson Ave Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her son Edward Mergenthaler and her siblings, Carrie Tatum, Gracie Richards, Eunice Armstrong, Wallace Richards Jr., her twin brother Nick Richards and Dora Potter.
Surviving are her loving sons Charles Mergenthaler and Anthony Mergenthaler; one brother, Linwood Richards; also surviving are Sarah’s grandchildren, Wanda, Charles Jr., Charlene, Eddie, Wendy, and Zachary. In addition there are eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many very special family members that Sarah loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by us all.
Visitation is Tuesday, December 3, 2013 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. Funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the chapel of Coble Ward-Smith with Pastors Andy Ottaway and Chris Wroten officiating. Burial is in the Richards Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Mergenthaler Jr., Kimble Tatum, Zack Mergenthaler, Benny Justice, Al Debose, and Jeff Clayton.
