Pauline was born in Hamilton, Ohio on September 3, 1926 to Garrett Hobart Rose and Bertie Buchanan Rose. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold William Dubach, and her siblings, Zona Click and Lawrence Rose.
Most recently, she was a vibrant member of Wrightsboro United Methodist Church for 15 years, serving in various capacities. Prior to this, Pauline and her family were active members of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Wilmington. She and her husband Harold were instrumental in founding Christ United Methodist Church in Landover Hills, Maryland.
Pauline grew up in rural Kentucky and enjoyed "working" at her grandmother's general store during her childhood, but moved to a new high school just before her senior year. Despite that, she was elected Senior Class President, played the lead role in her Senior Class play, and was Valedictorian of her 1943 graduating class, finishing high school at the age of 16. Always encouraging educational excellence, Pauline and her husband established a scholarship at Baker University (Baldwin City, Kansas), which still benefits students.
Pauline met her future husband, Harold, in Dayton, Ohio in May 1944 while she was working at the US Signal Corps and he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps preparing to test new radar equipment in Alaska for the Pacific Theater. They corresponded while separated during World War II, and afterwards were married on September 26, 1946. Their marriage lasted 66 years until Harold passed away on August 21, 2013.
Pauline was totally devoted to her children and involved in many of their activities. She also volunteered at the Wilmington Salvation Army for many years. Her favorite hobbies were church events, bird watching, gardening, reading, and traveling with her husband. She loved all animals (domestic and wild) and living things.
Pauline is survived by her four children: daughter, Linda Sevilla of Tampa, FL; daughter, CDR Deborah Dubach, USN (retired) of Syracuse, NY; daughter Nancy Gower (Perrin) of Aylett, VA; and son, David Dubach (Susan) of Raleigh, NC. She was the proud and delighted grandmother of five grandchildren: Kira Headrick, Casey and Austin Gower, and Matthew and Anna Wesley Dubach.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 90, Wilmington NC 28402.
Arrangements under the direction of Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, Wilmington, NC.
