Robert L Wright

Bob was born May 30, 1932 in Edenton, NC to the late William James Wright and Mattie Holland Wright. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Josephine W. Nixon, Margie Wright, and Andrea L. Wright.

Bob is survived by his life partner, Mabalene Walker Carter; sons, Robert Lee Wright Jr. and wife Amy, Andy Carter and wife Kelly; daughters Scarlett Spencer and husband Greg, Darlene Hart and husband Bob; grandchildren, who knew him as “Granddaddy Bob”, Sarah Carter, Nick Turner, Chris Turner and Katy, Jonny Spencer and wife Jenny, Katie Spencer and Jamison Hart; his great granddaughter, Summer Spencer; three sisters, Marie Griffin, Doris Gregory and husband CB, and Jean Wiggins and husband Robert; two brothers, Preston M. Wright and wife Betty, and Daniel Wright and wife Gayle; his dear friends Calvin Garner and Dennis Brock; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Katie”.

Bob was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star and an infantry badge. Bob was a friend of Bill W. for 33 years and a dear friend to many others along his journey through life. Bob was a loving, generous, and kind man who knew God and shared his loving spirit with others. His jokes and sense of humor were sure to cheer anyone up. Bob frequently said, “Make sure you talk to your friend upstairs every night.” He left a family that loved him dearly to go to a better place and there we will see him again.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Evan’s Funeral Home in Edenton, NC on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 2:00 PM with visitation at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Beaver Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church of your choice or the Stepping Stone Manor, 416 Walnut Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
