Mary Anna Lewis King was born in Brunswick County on November 19, 1926, to the late Dewey S. Lewis and Sarah E. Lewis. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Homer Stewart King, brother Leon Lewis, and son William Daniel King.
One of her most significant roles in life was being a Mother. Surviving are her children: Andrew King and wife Martha, Larry King, Dianne Hendricks, Al "Rob" Minarovic, Anthony King and wife Janis, William King and wife Melissa, Cynthia Dale and husband Charlie, John King and wife Veronica, Sharon King, Tim King and wife Lisa, Martha Forsythe and husband Rodney. She was affectionately known as Grandma to 30 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
In the early 1960's through the 1970's, Mary and Homer were the owners of M & H Restaurant. They welcomed and served many patrons in their bustling restaurant at the corner of Highway 87 and 17 in Winnabow, North Carolina. This adventure showcased Mary's southern gift of being a phenomenal cook while also balancing her role as a Mother. After Homer's untimely passing, Mary diligently continued to work hard, facing life onward with strength and grace. She worked at Rose's in Southport until the store closed in 2003.
Following retirement, Mary loved being surrounded by family. If the Carolina Tarheels were playing basketball, she could always be found cheering them on in her recliner. She was an avid supporter of Fox News and all efforts to Make America Great Again. Although she was given the gift of longevity, her absence in our family will be deeply felt. As the matriarch of our heritage, her legacy will be long-lived for many generations to come.
A Celebration of the remarkable life of Mary Anna Lewis King will be held at 3pm on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Coble Funeral Service Chapel with Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating and special music provided by Andy King. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at Wilmington National Cemetery.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the care provided by Dr. Darshan Dave and staff, as well as Lower Cape Fear Life Care. Floral arrangements are appreciated and memorial donations may be gifted to the American Kidney Foundation, Lower Cape Fear Life Care, or Wounded Warrior Project.
