In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Henry Karpinsky and Anthony Garafola.
Mary was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, but above all, Mary was an amazing and beautiful person. She spared no ounce of love for the people she met, whether she knew them for five minutes or five years. Mary lived a big life, catering her way through competitions, her co-owned bakery, the cruise line industry, and behavioral health for adolescents. Everyone knew if they were going to Mary’s house, they had better show up with an appetite.
Mary is survived by her husband, Justin Haywood, Sr., daughter Felicia Haywood and fiancé Shaun Parker of Lumberton, NC; son, Justin Haywood, Jr. and fiancé Elizabeth of Wilmington; grandchild, Juan Mendez of Leland; sisters, Margaret Profitt, Anna Lypen and brother in law Donald Lypen, and Mabel Garafola and brother, Richard Karpinsky; mother in law, Marjorie Watson; sister in law, Dawn Hester and brother in law Kevin Hester.
A Visitation will be held from 10am-11am on Wednesday July 24, 2024 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC. The Funeral Service will follow at 11am with Pastor Pete Mata officiating. Burial will be held in Greenlawn Burial Park.

Mary had such a strong zest for life, never backing down, no matter what got in her way. She was resilient, eager, and strong as ever. Let us all pray to be as eager for life filled with joy, laughter, and love, to honor Mary and keep her with us.
