Larry Gwin "Buddy" Melton, Sr.

Born on February 10, 1947, in Wilmington, NC, he was the son of the late William Henry Melton and Lillie Mae Melton. He was preceded in death by his five brothers: William Henry Melton Jr., Sterling Ray Melton, Robert Dale Melton, Cleveland George Melton, and Arnold Roland Melton; and his three sisters: Mildred Bernice Mintz, Barbara Ann Powell, and Sandra Mae Lewis.

Buddy is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Linda Lynn Melton; his daughter Teresa Skipper (Andy Skipper); his three sons, Larry Melton, Jr. (“Bud”) (LaStarr Willetts), Michael (Shelby) Melton, and Chuck (Amanda) Melton; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Shirley Jane Lassiter and Rowena Virginia Williams, and his brother John Mark Melton.

Buddy was a commercial fisherman and worked for many years clearing lots. He had a deep passion for hunting and fishing, often spending his time enjoying the ocean, river, and mountains. A devoted NASCAR fan, he especially cherished moments spent with his family, always eager to gather for holidays, birthdays, and cookouts. Buddy had a great love for seafood, particularly oyster roasts, and was known for making the best deer hash.

Those who knew Buddy would describe him as funny, loving, stubborn, determined, strong, and with a heart full of kindness. Recently, a dear friend shared these words about Buddy: “Pop was devoted to his family, supporting them with hard work and instilling strong values in his children. He was strict, but with a great sense of humor and a strong moral compass. I’m not sure how to describe it, but I think of him as a pistol”

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Coble Funeral Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd,Wilmington, NC 28412.

Funeral service will start at 1:00pm at the Coble Chapel, Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412.
