He was born in Reidsville NC on April 18, 1940 and was the 13th and last child born to Walter Robert Smith Sr. and Susie Strader Smith.
Ken married Sara Clewis Smith on March 30th, 1969. He enjoyed being part of the Cape Fear Alliance Church. He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed supporting missions and telling people about the Lord. He was a counselor, Deacon, and spiritual father to many. He was well known for his good humor, love for children, friends, and family. He earned the name “Abuelito Ken” during his trips to Mexico helping missions and visiting family. He was a Private pilot and was one of the founding members of the ILM Pilots Association in Wilmington NC. His hobbies were flying, fishing, and supporting Christian missions in many forms.
He is survived by his wife Sara Clewis Smith, daughter, Suzy Smith Marra and husband Robert Sean Marra, son Jonathan Eric Smith and wife Karina J. Smith; brother Jack Smith; granddaughter Madelynne Marra; three loving sister-in-laws Glenda Clewis Bell and husband Merlin, Joyce Clewis Freeman, and Marion Reynolds Clewis. The list grows too long to mention all of the extended family of adopted nieces, nephews, and grandchildren that were close to his heart together with his “daughter” Deyanira Wenger.
A visitation will be from 10am to 11am at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC, on December 18, 2021. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11am to 12pm with Pastor Bennett Sligh officiating. Internment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Dr., Wilmington, NC.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Kevin Cartrette, Merlin Bell, Gregory Latham, Ronald Worrell, Dr. Justin G. Miller, Bill Stackhouse, and Harold “Sportie” Leonard.
