Katie Gause Melvin, age 89, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully Friday, November 11, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. She was born on July 16, 1933 in Tabor City, NC to the late Jesse and Annie Jane Gause.
Katie retired from the North Carolina Forestry Service in 1993. Katie enjoyed spending her time with her family and loved having her family over to visit. Her favorite restaurants were Olive Garden and Casey's Buffet. Katie spent many days over the last 10 years at Elderhaus and formed special connections with those she encountered.
Katie was preceded in death by the love of her life, Paul Melvin, and two son-in-laws; Shum Hewett and Glenn Hawkins. Katie is survived by her two twin daughters, Patty Hawkins and Patsy and husband Jerry Prickett; three grandchildren, Chris and wife Heather Hawkins, Lori Ann Hewett and Jeremy and wife Moriah Hewett; and nine great-grandchildren who she deeply adored.
The family would like to thank everyone at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for their outstanding care and warmth, as well as those who spent time with Katie at Elderhaus during her time there.
A visitation will be held at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service At Greenlawn Memorial Park on Sunday, November 13, 2022 at 12:30 pm followed by the Funeral Service officiated by Austin Vestrand at 1:30 pm. The Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will be accepting visitors at the home of Chris and Heather Hawkins at 17 Silva Terra Dr, Wilmington, NC.
