Joyce Land McCotter, 92 of Oakland Twp, MI, Wilmington, NC and Harbor Springs, MI died on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born in New Bern, NC on November 8, 1930. She was the daughter of Thomas E. Land and Besse Mae Land. Joyce and her husband Alton McCotter were married for 67 years preceding his death in 2017.
Mrs. McCotter is survived by daughters Deborah Jean Milliken (husband Kevin), Linda Gail McLaughlin (husband Bill), five grandchildren, Kelli Milliken Corning (husband Richard), Christopher Michael McLaughlin (wife Heather), Kasey Milliken Buschmohle (husband Jordan), Kathleen McLaughlin Karpowicz (husband Josh), Sean Milliken (wife Erin); ten great-grandchildren, Caroline Corning, Hudson Corning, Sienna Buschmohle, Olivia Buschmohle, Gracie McLaughlin, Keegan Milliken, Eliana Buschmohle, Natalie McLaughlin, Avery Milliken, Cayden Karpowicz.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews she was very fond of. She adored her pets Cricket, Cruiser and Deacon.
Joyce grew up in New Bern, NC. She graduated High School in New Bern and attended Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, NC.
On August 18, 1950, Joyce married her beloved Al. They made their 1st home in Akron, Ohio and continued to move 9 more times in several states throughout the years.
Joyce worked at various jobs. She worked at the Birmingham, Michigan Eccentric Newspaper And Baxter Laboratories in Northbrook, Illinois. She was also President of the Royal Oak Junior Women’s Club. Joyce was very active in whatever community she was living in. She and Al loved to entertain and Joyce was known for her fantastic cooking. She was very creative and had a knack for decorating and gardening.
Joyce and Al traveled extensively and belonged to various country clubs and were avoid golfers. Boating was also a big part of their lives.
Joyce was a true “Southern Belle” who made friends with everyone she ever met. Her kindness and generosity will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412 from 2-6pm.
