Joe was born on October 1, 1922 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Julia Wlodyka Kapinos and John Kapinos.
Joe met and married Kathleen Pirozok in 1943 before joining and serving in the U. S. Army in the Aleutian and Philippine Island and supervised the operation of the ship’s engine room. He was honorably discharged in as a Master Sargent in 1946.
After his service, in the Army, Joe attended college at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his degree in Engineering. Joe was the construction and startup Nuclear Engineer at the Yankee Nuclear Plant in Rowe, Mass. A great claim-to-fame for Joe is that he was a Security Volunteer at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Ga. He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
Joe was the last surviving sibling of 11 children he was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen who sadly passed in 2004 but their legacy lives on in their family.
Joe is survived by his 2 daughters, Joyce Connelly of Leland, Janice Rossiter and her husband, George of Minnesota and son, Greg Kapinos of Maine; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Kathleen, Matthew, Clifford, Janessa and Cassaundra; 5 great grandchildren, Jamie, Elizabeth, Colin, Natasha and Jolie and a special friend, Norma Carter.
Visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Services. Military Honors to follow. Interment will take place at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Davis Healthcare or Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
