John joined the military at the early age of 21 and served his country for 3 years. John made sure he was always able to provide an idealized childhood and life for all 4 of his children. He went on to become a heavy machinery supervisor with the company Caterpillar to which he dedicated 30+ years of his life, in return he was able to create a beautiful retirement for himself.
If you asked 10 people who John Smith was, they all may give you a different story. A military man. The strongest man in the world. International yoyo champion or the funniest man alive. John was some of these things, or perhaps he was all of them. I will leave that up for you to decide. One thing for sure he was man of strength, dignity, and compassion. To his family and friends, he was a faultless husband, a model father, an ideal stepdad, a picture-book grandfather, a wise great grandfather and one of the most loyal friends you could have.
In addition to his wife, children and stepchildren John Lewis Smith Sr. is survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, NC 28412 on September 10, 2021, at 10:00am EST. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.
