He was married 49 years to the love of his life, Alison White Parker, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 71. John is survived by his three children Charles (Mary), Elizabeth, and Winston (Laura), brother Robert (Rebecca), and sister Susan (Elinor), and nine grandchildren.
John graduated from North Carolina State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Textile Chemistry and led a successful career as a textile executive and business owner. He managed textile plants in the Carolinas. John later founded textile manufacturing and international trading companies. His career took him to Central America, Taiwan, Europe, and countless trips to New York City and Miami.
In 1984, John moved his family to Cary. He and Alison joined White Plains UMC and the Friends Sunday School Class. John also became an active member of a MacGregor Downs investment group. In 2021, John moved to The Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary.
John and Alison loved traveling and visited over twenty countries together, as distant as Russia and China, and enjoyed family trips to their oceanfront property at Wrightsville Beach with their grandchildren. John was a true Wolfpack fan and enjoyed his seasonal football tickets with his family.
A private graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC on Saturday March 22, followed by a Celebration of Life in Cary at a later date. Details will be available on dignity.com.
