He was born in Currie, North Carolina on October 3, 1941, son of the late E.J. Pridgen, Sr and Mary Newton Pridgen.
Jimmy was a member of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on numerous committees. He enjoyed golf and was an avid Duke fan.
He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife of 50 years, Julia H. Pridgen and two sons, Frankie (Sandi) Pridgen and Randy (Karen) Pridgen, two grandchildren, Holt and Ashtyn Pridgen, all of Rocky Point, a sister, Iris (Mack) Autry, a brother, Ricky (Dayna) Pridgen, a sister in law, Hattie Pridgen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Evans Pridgen and E.J. Pridgen, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Ashe, Leon Lewis, Jr, Andy Brinkley, Mark Mintz, Stan Harts, and Elbert Newton, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be C.H. Harts, James Davis, Harry McKeithan, Dwight Overby, and James Perry.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their great care over the past two years, especially to Betty and Monica, to C.H. Harts and James Davis for their weekly calls and visits and to a very special Aunt and Uncle, Neal and Sue Newton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr, Wilmington, NC 28401 or Riley’s Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 19845 NC Hwy 210, Rocky Point, NC 28457.
Services will be held at Coble Ward-Smith Oleander Chapel on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 3:00 PM with visitation one hour prior. The Reverend Richard J. Phillips, Reverend Jim Herchenhahn, and Neal Newton will be officiating. The family will receive friends at the residence at all other times.
