Jimmie Donald Blanton "Nitetrain" of Leland, N.C. died peacefully on Friday, October 25, at Novant Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C. with his loving family by his side. He was born in Longs, S.C. on February 19, 1938, to Curtis Duffie Blanton and Bessie Gerald Blanton, now deceased. He is preceded in death by his baby sister, Christine, brother John Duffie "Duck" Blanton and nephew, Mike Blanton (Julie).
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Signe Lossen Blanton; his son, Brian Curtis Blanton (Renee); his grandchildren: Taylor Blanton Willetts (Jereme) and Dylan Curtis Blanton and his great-granddaughter, Connor Willetts. He is also survived by his niece, Sherry Blanton Rabon (Dale) and many other nieces and nephews.
He proudly served in the U.S.Navy and was retired from CSX Railroad. Jimmie was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting and spending time on his farm. He was active for over forty years with Leland Youth Baseball and was the President and organizer of Bullpond Hunting Club. He was also a member of the Men's Early Breakfast Group.
The family wishes to express special thanks to nurses Monica and Taylin for their extraordinary care for Jimmie.
A Visitation will be held from 10am-11am on Thursday, October 31, 2024 at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service, 1155 Shipyard Boulevard, Wilmington, NC 28412. The funeral Service will follow at 11am with Jeff Milligan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
