Janet Thieman

March 24th, 1945 – December 9th, 2024

Janet Larkin Thieman, age 79, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully on December 9th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 24, 1945, in Louisville, Kentucky, Janet was the daughter of William Robertson Larkin and Mildred Reynolds Larkin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Charles Thieman, Jr., her beloved son, William Charles "Bill" Thieman and her brother William Michael Larkin.

Janet graduated from Assumption High School in Louisville, KY. During her formative years she was a very talented ballerina and eventually went on to tour with the USO. Janet taught herself to play guitar and then joined the church choir. She found joy in the thrill of the Kentucky Derby, NASCAR, tennis, ceramics, and bowling. Janet enjoyed being a part of her local community’s bowling league. Above all, Janet’s greatest joy was her family.

Janet is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Hallman and Catherine Summerlin (James) of Wilmington, NC. She adored her many grandchildren—Rebecca (Mike), Stephanie, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn (Luis), Christopher, Bryton, Hunter, and Samantha—and found boundless pride in her great-grandchildren.

Janet was not just a mother, grandmother, and friend; she was the heart and soul of her family, a light in the lives of all who knew her, and the glue that brought everyone together.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 20th, 2024, at Basilica of St. Mary Catholic Church; 412 Ann Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 with Father Stephen DiMassimo officiating.

A gathering of family and friends including refreshments will immediately follow the memorial Mass at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412.
