In many ways, we can divide life into two parts: before we met Evelyn and after. She came smart-talking her way into our lives over the summer of 2016 — just after we had completed our first year of college. We were 19 and in a period of adjustment, having trouble settling our frazzled minds after a transformative year. She was 93 and had a lifetime of experience that made her everything that we weren't but wanted to be. She didn't dwell on the negative, took life day by day, and seemed to carry in her pocket only the best of each experience in her nine decades of life: the lessons, the happy memories, and all the best people she met along the way. The very first day we met, we brought her a homemade peach tart and by the end of the evening, she had given us probably the best piece of advice we have ever received in our lives: "All of the struggles you are facing now, will fade with maturity." Time and time again since that day, we have been reminded that those words are dead-on true.
