David was born August 10th, 1961, in Wilmington NC. He was the youngest of the four children of Ivy Smith (Babson) Wrightson. David was born with a very high level of energy and an independent nature. From a young age, David was a wonderful baseball player. He also enjoyed surfing, hunting, fishing, golf, card games, darts, pool, and poker. Suffice it to say, if it was competitive, he was all in!
David was a graduate of New Hanover High School and attended East Carolina University. He worked in many jobs and was skilled in many ways. He developed an unbelievable sense of humor, turning the lightest conversation into a belly buster event on a routine basis. Despite his on-going health challenges, his sense of humor never wavered.
In his later years, David spent a lot of time in or on the ocean. He was an avid fisherman, having success by hook, net, and gig. He spent plenty of time on the water with friends and family, always returning with a bounty for all to enjoy. David mastered the seafood feast!
David never met a stranger and was generous with his time, money, and transportation, as well as his food and his home–helping others in their trying times and weakest moments.
David and his mother had a tremendous bond, developed by meeting life’s challenges together and through shared faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
David loved and was loved by his family. He was preceded in death by his father Hyton Babson, step-father Arthur Wrightson III, and sister Karen Norris. David is survived by his loving and supportive mother Ivy Wrightson; brothers Bruce Babson and Roger Babson and his wife Donna; nieces Keri Stoyanov, Paige Garza, Rachel Steffen, and Taylor Babson; and nephews Roger Babson, Jr., Brennan Babson, and Weston Norris. He also leaves behind great nieces and nephews, aunts, cousins, and many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 13, 2023 at Coble Funeral Chapel, 1155 Shipyard Blvd. Wilmington, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
Burial will follow the funeral service at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
