Charles Mathis, 81, of Bolivia, NC went to be with his beloved wife, Joyce Watts Mathis on January 22, 2024. He was born in Duplin County, NC on October 3, 1942 to Lloyd Faison Mathis and Kattie Mazingo Mathis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Watts Mathis, parents, Lloyd and Kattie Mathis, and grandson Brandon Jackson.
He worked at Block Shirt Factory where he met his sweetheart. Then he went to work at East Carolina Oil as a janitor, and then moved to a mechanic. Drove big rigs for years and then became a dispatcher. Then, finished his retirement years as a Terminal Manager for the east coast. He still dreamed of driving a truck even after retirement.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Mathis Knox (Roger Glunt), son, Butch Jackson (Terri), daughter, Brenda Jackson, stepson, Rocky Jackson, stepson, Bill Jackson, brother, Norwood (Bud) Mathis, Russell Mathis (Diane), and his beloved dog, Rocky. He raised two grandchildren, Rachel Rivenbark (John) and Jay Mathis. He also has ten additional grandchildren, Kelli Knox, Holli Willetts, Jason Springs, Brian Springs, Alan (Sonny) Jones Jr. (Jennifer), Amanda Jackson, Erica King, Elizabeth Jackson, Olivia Jackson, and Ben Jackson. He also has fifteen great grandchildren, Cynthia Hurlburt (Kyle), Amber Nunalee (David), Booker Gordon, Caisin Brennick, Canden Ray, AJ Jones, Jacob Author, McKenzie Jones, Madison Jones, Brayden Jones, Gia Jones, Dustin Jones, Desiree Alexander-Jacobs, Kenneth Jackson, and Jada Jones. He also has six great- great grandchildren, Kyla Hurlburt, Abigail Hurlburt, and Gracie Hurlburt. Also, one very special little girl named Delilah Anderson that came into his life a year ago. He is has several nieces and nephews that he was very close with and they came to him for advice.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on January 25, 2024 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park 1155 Shipyard Blvd Wilmington, NC 28412.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on January 26, 2024 at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service with Eddie Watts officiating. Interment will follow at the gravesite in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Knox, David Nunalee, Kyle Hurlburt, Jeremy Rivenbark, Clint Bowling, and Mikey Lucas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brunswick Hospice Center.
