She was born in Wilmington NC on January 19, 1948, to Leo Buck Hadley and Lillie Mintz Hadley. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Edward Lee Hadley and Roy William Hadley.
Betty worked for the New Hanover County Schools for several years. After leaving the school system, Betty went to work at Sturdy Corporation where she retired after more than 30 years of service. Betty was a dedicated, loyal and hardworking employee. She made lasting friendships with many of her colleagues.
Betty’s greatest joy was being a mother and a grandmother. Her family was her pride and joy. She always enjoyed hearing about everyone’s adventures and interests. Betty always encouraged her children and grandchildren to work hard, be the best people they can be, and always be kind to others.
She is survived by her three children; Kimberly Horton (Terrell), Melissa Swicegood, and Phillip Swicegood (Meredith); seven grandchildren (Eliza Horton, Joshua Wilson, Ali Horton, Isabella Wilson, Tay Horton, Emma Wilson, and Pippa Swicegood); and brother, Troy Hadley.
A graveside service for Betty will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at 2:00PM at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington NC 28409.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Olivet Baptist Church or Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.
