Ann Johnson(82) passed away peacefully Saturday morning May 7th, 2016. Ann
was born September 3, 1933 in Wilmington NC. She is preceded by her beloved
parents, Herbert Renton Williams and Mildred Colwell Williams, founders of Williams
Cleaners. Ann grew up on Wolcott Avenue in Carolina Place, graduated from New Hanover High School in 1951 and attended East Carolina University.
She is survived by her husband of 63
years, Joseph Henry Johnson Jr of Middle Sound and her 3 children, son Joseph Henry
Johnson III and wife Karen of Wilmington, daughter Elizabeth (Beth) Ann
Johnson Lennon and husband John of Wilmington, and son Mark Williams
Johnson and wife Traci of Charleston SC. She is also survived by her
cousin, Martha Jean Coffield, who was like a sister to her.
Ann’s greatest joy in life were her 7 grandchildren, who, along with many others
affectionately called her Granny Ann, Kevin Wesley Johnson and wife Rebecca, Brian
Joseph Johnson and wife Amber, Preston John Lennon, Avery Ann Lennon, Whitley
Colwell Lennon, Lindsay Gallo, and Connor Williams Johnson; and her 2 precious
great-grandchildren Joseph Kenneth Johnson and Michael Wesley Johnson.
Ann worked for Southern Bell telephone company as assistant chief operator and Swift
Chemical Company as an accountant before turning her attention to real estate where
she was a successful Realtor for 20 years before her retirement in 1998.
Ann was baptized and married at First Baptist Church and later joined Trinity United
Methodist Church where she had been a member for 63 years.
Ann had a special place in her heart for her friends and felt fortunate to enjoy her
“Bridge Club” for over 60 years, playing bridge and traveling to Holden Beach, a
favorite place for her. She also loved flowers, family meals together, being on the water,
and all her special dogs of which there were so many.
Ann is remembered as a gentle spirited woman with an ease to laugh. She was
generous with her love to all who knew her and always an example of a life well lived.
The family would like to thank The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center for their
extraordinary care. Visitation is at Coble Ward Funeral Home, Oleander Drive on Tuesday evening May 10 from 6pm until 8pm. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist
Church at 11:00am Wednesday morning with a celebration of life luncheon to follow at the church. Interment will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the Lower Cape Fear or the charity of one’s choice.
