She was born in Richmond, Virginia on February 12, 1938 daughter of John Cheek and Verla Lee Cheek. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Coleman; brothers: Roger, Mack, Hobert and Charles Ray; sisters: Georgie, Alma, Virgie, Virgina and Shirley.
She loved her grandchildren, and animals, owning several dogs and birds though out her life. She was an athlete who played and captained four sports in High School, wining State Championship in Fast Pitch Softball and was an avid bowler. She owned multiple small business including Avon and Amway. She loved to decorate the house for Christmas so much so that the Wilmington Airport would change their flight patterns to be able to fly over her house.
Alberta is survived by her daughter, Teresa Lee; son, John Dee and his wife Lori Ann; grandchildren: Tessla Anne, Christopher Thomas, Caleb Aaron, Jordan Micah, Tessa Marie, and Seth Bryon; great grandchildren: Navy Ann, Chloe Resse, Reilly Dee, Isabel Grace, Mich Graham, Bradley Carter, Sterling Ernest, Jaina Ann and Sophia Sapphire; brothers, Albert Cheek and Boyd Cheek and sister, Francis Davidson; step children, Marvin Coleman, Jr., Tonya Coleman, and Lynnette Coleman.
Funeral Service for Alberta will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1155 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina 28412.
Following the funeral service will be an Interment at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC, N.C. 28409.
