

His Father Nikolaj was killed during the WWIl in 1941. Being at the young age on his own, he had very adventurous personality and spend a lot of time on the streets.
Naturally, he had a lot of talents, but never ended up taking them seriously. He was good at singing, playing cymbals in the orchestra, writing poems for the local newspaper, drawing. He was also very detail oriented and loved doing restoration of the old books and wooden furniture as home projects. He got married in 1963 to Zhanna, and they had one child, Olga, in 1965. He finished Moscow's Plekhanovskiy Institute and got his Bachelor degree there. He was working for 35 years at the same factory as the engineer of the industrial cooling system. He moved to USA with his wife, Zhanna, daughter Olga, granddaughter Dasha and son-in law Victor in 1992. He was working as the mailman for the local newspaper Daily Herald for a few years and he enjoyed that job. He enjoyed his time in US by traveling a lot with his family, with his group of friends or just two of them, with his wife. They both loved browsing for treasures in the garage sales weekly, that was their joined hobby. His wife past away in 2018. He was living by himself in his latest years. Vladimir passed away at his home peacefully while taking afternoon nap.
Vladimir is survived by his loving daughter Olga Afanasov and son-in-law Victor Afanasov. He was the grandfather of Daria Afanasov and Alexander Afanasov. He also was the proud great-grandfather of Vanya Ogoltsev and Andrey Ogoltsev. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Funeral service Thursday, January 4, at 2:00 PM preceded by family visitation at 1:15 at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette. The burial ceremony starts at 3:00pm at Memorial Park Cemetery. After that, lunch will be held at Zhivago restaurant at 3:45pm.
