It was our honor and blessing to have known Susie Stein, a woman of great strength and humor. A rare beacon of positivity, Susie gave freely of her time and talents to many causes, the CSO being one of the dearest to her heart. She will truly be missed, and we are lucky to have enjoyed her for so many wonderful years. We think of you constantly in these difficult times.

Susie Stein was one of a kind.  She was a wonderful person…so smart…so beautiful…and so friendly.  I met her when I attended my first Fortnightly meeting.  She checked me in and I remember thinking that she was so welcoming and super glamorous.  What a surprise when I discovered she was sitting  next to me at the luncheon table.  We became forever friends!

While I knew Susie mostly through The Fortnightly, the Guild of The Chicago History Museum and the alumni courses at Northwestern, I also have been impressed with her dedication to the CSO.

Susie had so much energy and tons of creative ideas…and the most heartwarming smile.  She will be so missed, as she was loved by everyone.

   Qing and I adored your mother.    Susie was always so kind, so warm, so positive and upbeat.   For many, many years we saw her welcoming smile at the cso League events.  Her presence, her involvement, and her commitment to and in the life of our orchestra were constant and reassuring, and we always felt deeply grateful to her for her friendship to us and to the institution of the cso. To Elizabeth and all of Susie Stein’s Family,
I just wanted to send a quick note telling you how sorry I was to hear of your mother’s death and to mention how lovely and kind she always was.  I met Susie years ago when I joined the University of Chicago Women’s Board.  Susie was the head greeter for so many of our events and was an important part of our luncheons; she always had a welcome smile and an interested question or a kind comment ready for each guest.  She will be greatly missed.

I have been lucky to count Susie among my friends for the past 20-ish years. She was one of the warmest, funniest, and most vivacious women I’ve had the pleasure to have known, and whether at The Fortnightly, Chicago Opera Theater, or the University of Chicago Women’s Board, we spent many happy hours together. I am at the CSO tonight, and I can’t help but think of Susie and how much she loved it here. She was loved by so many and will be dearly missed by all. Liz, I am so very sorry for your loss.

It would be difficult to live a better life than by following Susie's (apparent) goal of being the kindest, most involved, most engaged, most loving, most supportive, most interested . . . the positive adjectives go on and on . . . person EVER. 

Everyone who crossed her path counts her as a friend and cheerleader. She changed and enhanced countless lives.

It is with great sadness but also many fond memories and happy moments that I learn of Susie's passing.
As a member of The Alumnae of Northwestern, Susie and I shared a love of music and theatre. Also, a great sense of humor.

I was so shocked to hear of her passing, I thought she would go on forever. She was such a dear friend; her loss is stuck in my mind. I think of her all the time. She will be much missed by all of us. She was so gracious and always happy. What a loss!

Suzy was such a delightful ball of energy.  Even into her 90s, she was a vivacious and impeccably dressed life of the party. Her lifelong support of arts and culture in Chicago and her ever-present wry smile spoke to her deep appreciation of life in spite of its many challenges. Her memory is certainly a blessing for many.

I knew Susie for so many years, since I used to do her makeup at Lanzendorf Blankenship Salon on Oak Street, where she came before all the glamorous events she attended.  Her beauty was so much more than skin deep - she was warm through and through, and when she entered a room, it became brighter because she was there. I send love and light to Liz, who I also know, and to Robert, who I've never met.  Susie will be so missed...by anyone whose life she touched with her grace and kindness.

Your mother Susie was always such a warm, welcoming  presence in the many Fine Arts Music Society events we produced together.
I will always remember her elegance, her radiant smile and her wonderful sense of humor. It was an honor to have known her.
My mother Gabriele always enjoyed meeting her whenever she came to visit from Germany and sends her deepest sympathy to you and Bob. We are deeply sorry for your loss.
It was so evident how much your mother loved you and Bob,  music and the fine arts, which she supported in the most wonderful ways for the important cultural organizations in Chicago and beyond-In that way her spirit and legacy will live on.

I'm so sorry to hear about Susie's death. It was always a pleasure to run into her, whether at the Arts Club of Chicago, the Chicago Symphony or the theater. She was a bright presence, open-minded and curious. I will miss her smiling face.

I met Susie through the University of Chicago Women's Board and we became instant friends.  She was the lead greeter for our events and was always first on site.  I will truly miss Susie as she became a very true and endearing friend.  We could talk forever about everything.  She was loved by so many including me.  Condolences to the family and prayers for strength to continue on.

Your mother was precious.  It’s hard to imagine the world without her.  I throughly enjoyed our conversations at The Fortnightly Club.   Sending you lots of prayers during this time.

I am sad to learn of your mother's passing. I met her only once, which was my fault, not hers or yours, and remember her as quite a lady. On that occasion she was surrounded by friends, and one could easily discern why this was so: Her warm personality, her intelligence, her good looks and fashion sense, all made her popular, and rightly so. You loved her dearly to care for her as you did. No mother ever had a sweeter daughter. Her passing is undoubtedly painful for you. Please take care of yourself now -- your brother has helpers -- and lean on your friends.

Dear Liz,
It breaks my heart to hear about the loss of you mother.  You were so lucky to have her for this long.  She was a delight!  She welcomed me into the Fortnightly and took me under her wing.  Even though we were 30 years apart, she wanted to be good friends.  We spent a lot of time together at the Fortnightly as we tried to usually sit together. 
We even had lunch outside of the club.  She said that she knew my parents as well as some of their friends and could always recount stories.  She will be greatly missed.
