Stanford J. Reinisch, Chicago furniture manufacturer, died Tuesday, October 23rd at age 93. With his late brother Richard, Mr Reinisch was president and co-owner of the Philip Reinisch Company, founded during the Great Depression by their father Philip. Taking over the company at age 27, Mr. Reinisch was an innovator in the design and marketing of occasional furniture, most notably curio cabinets. He and Richard ran the company with heart and with handshakes, always taking pride in offering the best quality, service and value for customers throughout the United States and abroad.
After attending Riverside Military Academy, Mr Reinisch served in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He studied English at the University of Chicago, where he honed his natural talent for storytelling and cultivated his love of language and literature.
A founding member of the Birchwood Tennis Club in Highland Park, Mr Reinisch was a gifted tennis player and in later years, an intrepid swimmer.
Most of all, Mr Reinisch was devoted to his family. With unflagging optimism, grace and humor, he met each day with a sense of wonder at what the day might bring and how he could share that wonder with his family. Apart from his family, his greatest pleasures may have been to live long enough to see the Cubs win the World Series and to become known as a talented, joyful singer.
Mr Reinisch is survived by his beloved wife Carol DeChant; his devoted daughters Deborah (Michael Theodore) Reinisch and Linda (Alan Martinson) Reinisch; his loving step-children Beth (Jim) Kasper, Meredith (David) Ashby, Brian (Arlene) DeChant, David (Ann-Marie) DeChant; his cherished grandchildren Isabel Caro Mai Twanmo, Cecilia Caro Soong Twanmo, Matt (Melissa) Bernier, Jacob (Amanda) Bernier, David DeChant, Olivia DeChant, Grace DeChant, Gavin DeChant, Zed DeChant, Calliope DeChant; and his precious great-grandchildren Emmalee Bernier, Sarah Bernier, Merry Bernier and Winifred Bernier. Mr Reinisch was the loving brother of the late C. Richard Reinisch, the devoted son of the late Lee and Philip Reinisch, and the caring former spouse of the late Helen Caro.
