Mary Ann Grannemann was a passionate and lifelong student, performer, and teacher of classical voice. Originally from New Haven, Missouri, she was the only child of Merlin Louis Grannemann and Lorene May (Brown) Grannemann. Mary Ann graduated from Central Methodist University and Drake University, before making her home in Wilmette, Illinois.
Mary Ann was active with the Music Center of the North Shore, taught at New Trier High School, performed at various churches and synagogues around the North Shore, and was a longtime choir member at Glencoe Union Church. She loved her children, her music, her friends, her community, and her students. She was generous, gentle, and kind. She loved visiting the Chicago Botanic Garden, Gilson Park, and Ravinia with her friends and family.
Mary Ann passed away peacefully at Artis Senior Living in Wilmette on November 28th, 2023. She was loved and will be missed deeply by her daughter Liese Fredericka (Edward Franckowiak) von Brauchitsch, son Karl Mattias von Brauchitsch, and grandson Lukas von Brauchitsch, as well as her GUC family, and the many voice students with whom she worked over the years.
Friends and family will gather for a small memorial gathering for Mary Ann that will be scheduled for summer of 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA, or The Salvation Army.
