Mark Fogelson, 94, of Wilmette, IL died December 12, 2023. Mark was born in Riga, Latvia in 1929 to Ann and Kalman Fogelson. Mark was preceded in death by his loving sister Luba Skevin. He had a positive outlook throughout his life and he shared that outlook with others. As teenager in World War II, Mark and his family were banished to Siberia. He returned to Latvia after the war and went on to earn his undergraduate and masters degrees in Nuclear Physics. His career began as a high school teacher. From teaching, he went on to Nuclear Physics research. In 1958, he helped his family escape the Soviet Union. They found a new home in Chicago. In 1963, he met the love of his life Liliane. In Chicago, Mark continued his Nuclear Physic studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Unable to work in the field of Nuclear Physics, due to his Soviet Education, he began working as an Electrical Engineer. During his career at Zenith, he worked in research, development and production for display devices. The cutting edge technology he worked on included televisions, computer monitors, laptop displays, modern flat screens, and heads ups displays used for transportation. During is career he was awarded five U.S. Patents. His passions outside of work included helping family and friends, playing competitive chess and fixing things himself. Later in life, he developed a passion for following the stock market, cooking, and taking care of his grandchildren. Mark leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years Liliane (Havdala) Fogelson. Loving father of Jocelyn (Alan) Sussman, Dr. Lawrence (Dr. Joanne Gerber) Fogelson, and Philip (Stacy Deemar) Fogelson. Proud and beloved grandfather of Benjamin Sussman, Joshua Sussman, Brian (Abby Rose) Fogelson, Haley Fogelson, Jacob Sussman, Ethan Fogelson and Andrew Fogelson. Mark was a wonderful brother to Louis (Vivian) Fogelson and the late Luba Skevin. He was a wonderful brother-in-law to the late Roger (Denise) Aghion, and Dr. Henri (Sandra) Havdala. Mark was the caring uncle to Victor Aghion, Jacqui (Barry) Chatz, Joe Skevin, Dr. Jack (Peggy) Havdala, Debbie Wrobel, Ellen Havdala, Michael (Melissa) Havdala, David (Karina Leon) Fogelson, Kimberly (Steve) Kowal, and Kevin (Heather) Fogelson. Funeral service will be held on Friday, Dec. 15, 10:00 AM at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie.
