Margaret M. Nagel, 87, of Evanston, Illinois, was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, to Hilda B. Mann (née Brown). She earned her master's degree from the Fredonia State University of New York and taught many years in the Dunkirk, New York, public school system's School #5. She moved to Evanston in 1992. Her passions were nature, music, reading, writing, and her children and their families. She became a first-time published author and illustrator at age 80 earning critical commendation for her book and a special mention in the monthly publication of the American Library Association.
She is survived by her children Mary Kim, Sarah (Tom) Hahne, and Milton (Vicky) Nagel; her grandchildren Heather (Thomas) Adams, William August Hahne, and Molly Hahne; and her great-grandchildren Trey Adams and Elijah Adams. She is also survived by her sister Doris B. Litchfield, her nephew David (Mary Beth) Litchfield, her grand nephews Bradley (Anna) Litchfield and Braydon (Abigail) Litchfield, and her great-grand nephew Brooks Litchfield. Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, fiancée Ray Marshall, brother-in-law Wally Litchfield, nieces Kathleen Litchfield and Anne Marie Litchfield Hoffman, and nephew James Edwin Litchfield.
Margaret loved living, but met the end bravely. She is deeply missed, and will be dearly remembered. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) or any "good world" organization of your choice.
