Dr. Joseph S. Nykaza

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne (Archibald) Nykaza; his son, Dan and Lee Nykaza and children (Gina, Jack, Justin and Kristin); Robert and Darlene Nykaza and children (Ben, Jessica, Cristina, John, Nate, Micole, Rachelle, Rebecca, Bethany, Ben D., and Amber); Michael and Stephanie Nykaza and children (Nick and Kristen); Wendy(Nykaza) and Sean Smith and children (Taylor, Ryan and Halle); and Kara(Nykaza) and Geoff Foster and children (Michael and Brett); his brother Ed and sister Elaine along with many more loving family and friends.

Born on May 2, 1938. Joe Nykaza was raised in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Louise (Rapacz) Nykaza along with his siblings; Edward, Wallace, Dorothy, and Elaine. He attended Taft High School and graduated from Marquette University Dental School in 1961. After serving 4 years in The United States Navy as a dentist, he returned to Illinois, where his practiced dentistry in Wilmette and Evanston for 40 years. He took pride in his practice and the fact that he had many special patients which felt like family to him. Along with his successful practice, Dr Nykaza was involved in his community and served as president of several organizations, including the The Illinois Academy of General Dentistry. After his retirement, Dr. Nykaza was a clinical professor at Loma Linda Dental School in California.

Most of all he loved his family. Spending his time with his wife, Joanne, children and 22 grandchildren was his greatest joy. He will be missed dearly.

A funeral mass is planned for Wednesday, Oct 30 at 11am at St Francis Xavier in Wilmette, Illinois. Visitation will be at 10 am at the church prior to the mass.

In addition, there will be a memorial mass that will take place in Southbury Connecticut at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care in Naugatuck, CT.
