I was sad to learn that George passed away this morning.  I new his sister from high school back in the day of living in Skokie and going to Niles East.  I ran into George a few times when I lived in the city some 30 years ago.  I was surprised that he remembered me.

My condolences to Denise, Eunice and the entire family.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest condolences to George's family.  I was stunned and saddened to hear of his death. Many years have gone by since the period of our lives that George and I were close friends. Even though, I would think of him often.  We met in college, and he helped me get over a break up. Never forget dancing with him at many a club. We shared many interests, art, movies, concerts,culture. After seeing a movie together, it was like Siskel and Ebert arguing about whether it was thumbs up or down. He did have a sardonic sense of humor that many of us loved about him. Sometimes he could have an acid tongue, but he was a pussycat underneath. He had great passion for art and was very talented. He also could whip up a great meal. He was always there for you. I truly wish we hadn't drifted apart. My deep sympathy and love goes out to you and the rest of the family, Denise.

I grew up with George attending our family holiday parties and have fond memories of his stories and his laugh! I am so sorry to hear about his tragic death, my thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time.

I met George in the early 90's when he lived in Chicago and had his cleaning business. We became friends, bonding over our love of art, movies and animals. George was with me when I adopted my first kitten from Anti Cruelty, and we were at one time flatmates. He had a sharp sense of humor, was very close to his family and was a very compassionate person. Our lives went on and I hadn't seen him in several years and was stunned- in disbelief to read about his passing. My heart goes out to the family he loved so much, all my love to you.

I met George in the late 80s shortly after I’d moved to Chicago. We were both volunteers at Stop AIDS Chicago, an educational outreach program. We become fast friends. I loved his biting wit, his contagious, full-throated laugh, and the passion with which he pursued the things he loved. We quickly discovered that we had many musical alignments, and we enjoyed seeing some of our mutual favorites live together; Liza, Bernadette, Bette. Though I never saw him happier or more excited than when we drove to Detroit together to catch a rare performance by his ultimate diva, Barbra Streisand. It felt like an honor to be asked to join him for something that was clearly so special to him. We also enjoyed tons of theater together. We traveled to NYC, Colorado, Toronto. I greatly admired George as an artist and a designer. On a couple of occasions he would catch me staring obsessively at a certain piece he’d created, until finally saying, “Oh, just take it home, already!” Other pieces he created specifically for me. I have a half dozen of his beautiful pieces on my walls to this day, which I treasure. We were very close friends for about eight years, though not without our conflicts. Ultimately it seemed best for us to part ways. But I loved George. And I’ve so often missed him. And I’m painfully sorry for his untimely loss.

Our hearts are with you and your family during this devastating time. We made a small donation to the Center on Halsted in George’s name. Please know that you are supported and loved.

We were friends with George for more than three decades.  We are deeply saddened by his death.  We always enjoyed his sharp wit and good company. He was a good friend, willing to help with problems, big and small.  We were delighted when he met Jeffrey and experienced a period of such joy in his life.  Family was the center of George’s life.  Eunice, Denise, Rachel and Andrew, we hope you know how much George cared for you and how much he valued your love and support.  Our thoughts are with you all.

I considered George one of my closest if not my closest friend. I met him in 1995 through mutual friends none of whom I know now but George’s friendship endured. Despite his sometimes tough exterior, he was warm, generous, and a true friend. Always ready with an opinion, he could often disarm people in a group with his honesty but his laugh could also light up an event. I spent so much time with him over the years and I always cherished our time together although driving with him was often a white knuckles. I remember laughing hysterically with him at a really bad karaoke singer one night, an event we would recall from time to time and still laugh about. Friends like George are rare and I will miss him deeply but my memories of him will always make me smile.

I didn’t know George, but I am fiercely pro-LGBTQ + rights and Jewish. His loss is a loss not only to the LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities but also to society as a whole. May his memory be a blessing.

We are devastated by George's passing, We met him in 1986 while we were living in Chicago.  I (Terry) particularly remember long, thoughtful conversations with him after a dinner or movie date with him and other friends.  He was insightful and witty and, of course, having trained as a fine artist, he had an artistic flair.  We still have a cherished Christmas tree-Hanukkah bush ornament that he made for us some 30 years ago.  It was prominently displayed on this year's tree!  One thing I will remember is the unconditional love and support he felt from his family, especially from his parents, Manny and Eunice, and from his sister Denise.  Know that he loved you very much.
