raised in Davenport, IA. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1950 and later
earned an MBA at the University of Chicago. Over the course of his career he worked at the
LaSalle National Bank, the Hammond Organ Company, Clow Corporation and, in 1984, he
founded Lake-Cook Mortgage.
Throughout his life, Don was an ardent sports fan and an outstanding athlete. He
played and lettered in football, basketball and track in high school and was recruited to
play football during his time in the Navy while stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Training
Base. As a member at Sunset Ridge Country Club, he enjoyed golf and tennis and, in the 70’s,
he introduced platform tennis to the mid-west. The game was enthusiastically embraced by
club members and Don excelled at the sport for several years. He was also involved in
community affairs and served two terms on the School Board at Sunset Ridge School
and helped in raising funds for the construction of the North Suburban YMCA.
Don is survived by Joan, his wife of 57 years; two daughters; Nancy (Bradley) Pickhardt
of Missoula, MT, and Barbara (Tim) Maly of Oak Park, IL; and a son, Jim,
of Arlington Heights, IL. Don’s eight grandchildren were a particular delight to him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Betsy, who died in 1976. He is also survived
by his sister, Martha Allen, of Parkville, MO; and two brothers: Robert (Elaine) LeBuhn of
Murray Hill, NJ, and David LeBuhn (Becky) of Glenbrook, NV.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 11:00 a.m. at the Northfield
Community Church, 400 Wagner Road, Northfield, Illinois. Arrangements under the direction of Wm. H. Scott Funeral
