Dan grew up in Highland Park, Chicago, where he developed a deep love of baseball. He played on the high school varsity team as a star pitcher, and then played for Tulane University. After graduating college, he spent eighteen years as a commodities trader at the Chicago Board of Trade, and then opened up The Big Biscuit restaurant in Independence, Missouri in 2000. Soon after opening his first restaurant, he opened a second in Blue Springs, Missouri, and would eventually franchise The Big Biscuit. In 2008, he accomplished his lifelong dream of owning a baseball team and founded the St. Joseph Mustangs, a collegiate summer team.
Dan was quick-witted and hilarious. He was generous and supportive, serving as a board member for various charities, and always helping people in any way he could. He loved food, movies, comedy, eating one bite of dessert at every restaurant, and reciting sports facts to anyone who would listen.
Dan is survived by his sons Tyler and Luke and the boys’ mother, Kim; his brothers Bradley (Randi) and Mitchell (Heidi); his niece, Stella; his nephews, Dylan and Will; and his father Jerry. He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane (Dolly), and his dog, Blossom.
Dan was an avid supporter of Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, and the family would greatly appreciate donations to the hospital in Dan’s honor. He will be buried at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City.
