Steven H. Wilson
Passed away April 7, 2020 after a period of declining health. He was 74. Born October 24, 1945 in Buffalo, NY, he was the son of James E. and Margaret (nee McLaughlin) Wilson. Steven graduated from Deveaux Academy
in Niagara Falls, NY and went on to study at Boston University, and received a degree in Business at the
University at Buffalo. He later became Vice President of his family’s company Sonwil Distribution Center.
Throughout the years, Steve enjoyed traveling, sailing his boat on Lake Ontario, skiing at Holiday Valley and many other areas around the country and Canada. He especially enjoyed designing and building bookshelves and other projects around his home. Steve loved his tools and enjoyed fixing things. He also spent time building book shelves, coffee tables, a headboard and other pieces of furniture for his home and was always very proud of his accomplishments.
Steve was a longtime outstanding member of Lederhosen Ski Club, having been past president, newsletter editor and active in many other capacities. He enjoyed many years of skiing in the United States and Canada and traveled with his wife Penny to places in Europe, Mexico, the United States and the Caribbean. He especially enjoyed organizing weekend trips to Stratford, Ontario to attend Shakespeare productions.
In years past, he loved taking his dog Ashley for walks and in more recent years, his dog Maggie would accompany him on his numerous hardware store trips.
Steve will be missed by many friends and family.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Millicent “Penny” (nee Handel) Wilson; sister the late Nancy F. Wilson; brothers Peter G. (Deborah) Wilson and the late Stuart (Judith) Wilson and cousin Linda (late Henry) Bradley; also survived by brother-in-law Geoffrey (Frances G.) Handel and many nieces, nephews and other cousins.
A Celebration of Steven's life was held July 11, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
