I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Dr. Kermis' passing. She made such a profound impact on me as a student at Canisius in the early 2000's. I have often thought of her over the years. When I was in college, my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor. At the time, she did not know me well, but was able to recognize that I was having a tough time. Once I opened up to her, she offered her kindness in so many ways. One in particular was that she came up to me before class and gifted a book ("The Wizards Dilemma") of a girl in a similar position as me and my family. I still have the book to this day (20 years) and every time I see it on my bookshelf, I think of her. 

I have the fondest memories of Dr. Sherry Kermis during my time as an adjunct at Canisius, as well as her husband George and their lovely daughters.  My mother, Patricia Riley, worked at Canisius, as secretary for the Education department, and earned her degree as a senior citizen.  She also served as the "babysitter" for the Kermis daughters, Rachael  and Amelia...many fond memories of the whole family.

Dear George and your daughters,
We were all young parents once and those early years of raising our children were glorious.  Fulfilling.  Fun. Gratifying.   I am so glad to have met you both back then at Elmwood Franklin.   School plays. Musicals. Camping adventures. Formal dinners. Graduations.  All done in concert together so we gathered together for a few brief hours, talked, laughed and then went back to our work and home lives.  It was satisfying and happy times.
I hope your find this message as I wrote it; from the heart.  Know that Sherry was appreciated and I write this from fond memories of those adventuresome times.  Please know that I am sure that Sherry is in Heaven and will always be looking over you and your family. Her heart bursting with joy.

She was my professor at Canisius when I was a student there 1976-80. I remember her fondly as a knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. She was very young, not much older than me as I recall. She was kind and helpful. I am sorry she has left us so soon.
Thank you for uploading all of the wonderful pictures illustrating Sherry’s life. With a devoted husband, two daughters she obviously loved very much, and grandchildren, Sherry’s life was rich indeed. The world has lost a good one.
