John grew up in a hard-working community in Niagara Falls, NY, often helping his mother, Josephine, run several businesses in their community. Throughout his life, John served his family with a kind willing spirit, and was always ready to lend a hand to friends or others in need. His tenacity and courage led him to step into places and people’s lives with all his heart.
John was a proud navy veteran, having served on the USS Saratoga as a photographer.
After he was honorably discharged, John worked for Dupont until he started his own fire and safety business, serving the western NY area for over 25 years. Later in life, he held rental properties and was a project engineer for DuPont.
John would say his greatest achievement is his loving family. Missing him greatly are his three devoted children, Valerie (Michael), J. David (Jane), and Todd McLellan who blessed him with eight adoring grandchildren to love - Christina (Scott), Cameron (Caitlin), Caroline (Austin), Conner, Max, Sagan, Sophia and Shawn. Over the past few years, John embraced the role of Great-grandfather to Christian, Stella, Luella, Hazel and Lawson. He was overjoyed to be the brother of Mona, Nancy and Neil, and uncle of David, Sarah (Jason) and their children JJ and London, & cousin to Guy Moscatto of PA & many more extended family.
John’s hobbies included: travelling, cooking, gardening, creating stained glass art, reading about history and current events and most importantly spending time with his family.
Inspiring quotes about John: “One of the kindest men I’ve ever known,” “He always made you feel special and loved,” “He was proud to be a part of my life,” “He was like my second father,” “He was a great father-in-law.”
John’s life is a testament reflecting the love of Jesus through love and forgiveness. He taught his family about hard work, tenacity, perseverance, faith, and the importance of prioritizing family relationships. A family graveside service and Honor Guard ceremony was held on June 6, 2022, at the Western NY National Cemetery, where John was laid to rest.
