September 6, 2024. Wife of the late Richard E. Ryan; mother of Richard (Laura) Ryan, Colleen (Patrick) Burke, Kathleen (James) Donahue, Brady and the late Kevin (Late Laurie) Ryan USAF SSGT., grandmother of 7 also survived by 2 great granddaughters, as well as the many "Village kids" that passed through her back door. The family will be present to receive friends Monday, September 16th from 4-8 PM at Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Williamsville. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday morning, September 17th at 10 o'clock in SS Peter & Paul Church, Williamsville. Please assemble at church. Known as “Ma” Ryan, Joan was a Williamsville staple. She was one of the pioneer’s of the SS Peter and Paul’s Mother’s Club and was President of the club for many years. She was active in SS&PP's CYO One Act Plays and the CCD programs. Joan was also involved with the Boy and Girl Scouts. Joan was a member of Amherst Kiwanis and the Red Hats.
Joan began her career as a legal stenographer in a private law firm in downtown Buffalo in the early 70's. She then went on to become a legal secretary in the Erie County DA’s office under Ed Cosgrove in the Organized Crime Task Force for many years. Afterwards she was chosen, by then State Supreme Court Judge Timothy Drury as his private secretary until she retired.
In retirement she enjoyed singing woman's barbershop in the Niagara Frontier Chord Authority, serving on the board of her condo, golfing, gardening, doing crosswords or counted cross-stitch and her 5 o’clock martini’s.
