Jane S. Woodward

October 24, 1943 - March 16, 2024

Of Clarence, formerly of Amherst, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 after battling Parkinson’s disease. She was the beloved wife of the late Laurence H. Woodward and is survived by her children Carolyn J. Smith (Josiah) of Palmer, AK, Michelle W. Biegner (Stephen) of Clarence Center and Lori W. O’Connell of Austin, TX. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Mollie Siegfried and the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Kyler, Tristin and Larissa Smith; Andrew and Lauren Biegner, Carter, Chloe and Cayla O’Connell. Jane grew up in Albany, NY and graduated from the University of Vermont and received her Masters from Syracuse University School of Journalism, where she met her husband. After moving to the Buffalo area Jane concentrated on raising her children and volunteered with the League of Women Voters, Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Center and her church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Eggertsville, where she served on the church council for several years. In 1982 Jane served on the Amherst Town Planning Board as the first female elected member, later serving as Chair. She was then elected to the Amherst Town Council in 1990 and served in this capacity for 15 years, working as a liaison to the Amherst Museum, Amherst Symphony Orchestra, Amherst Senior Center and the Engineering Department among other areas. After retiring Jane lovingly cared for her husband for many years as he battled a progressive neurological disease. In addition to her service to her family and community, Jane will be remembered for her strength of character, tenacious spirit and strong work ethic.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 4007 Main St. Eggertsville, NY on April 13 at 12 pm, with Memorial Visitation preceding from 10am-12.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to St. Paul’s memorial fund in Jane’s memory.
