Grace S. Wick, 96, of Perrysburg, Ohio, formerly of Buffalo, New York passed away at home early on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 after spending Mother's Day weekend with her three loving children. She was born in Buffalo on September 13, 1917 to the late Herman and Gertrude (Whittmann) Vergils. On August 8, 1942, Grace married the love of her life Martin and they had three beautiful children. Grace was a committed, loving mother who persevered in raising her children alone after her husband Martin A. Wick pre-deceased her in 1961. Grace was always sensitive and generous giving both from her heart and modest resources. She made certain that everyone around her, especially her family, knew that they were loved. One of Grace's biggest regrets in life was that her family had become so spread out around the country that they could not share more time together. Grace seized every opportunity to visit family. Neither distance nor age could stop her. She took her last airplane flight at the age of 95 to attend a family Thanksgiving gathering at her grandson's family home in Memphis, Tennessee. The following April she took her last road trip with her son to attend her eldest great-granddaughter's First Holy Communion in Chicago, Illinois. Grace worked for the State University of New York at Buffalo as a private secretary to the Dean of the Preventive Medicine Department.

Grace is survived by her children Martin A. (Janice) Wick, Jr., Christine G. Wick, and Fulton J. Wick; her four grandchildren, Liam J.F. (Mary) Collins, Martin A. (Page) Wick, III, Erin C. (Richard) Stoddard and Rachel E. (Joshua) Myers; and her seven great-grandchildren Amelia, Josephine and Mary Martin Wick, Joshua and Justine Myers, and Caitlin and Aidin Stoddard. Also surviving are her two nephews Paul (Donna), Gary (Pat) and two nieces Trudy (Bob) and Lee (Howard). In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman C. Vergils. The family would like to give special thanks to the many wonderful people at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, who allowed Grace to remain at home especially her primary nurse Vicki, music therapist David, hospice volunteer Dee, social worker Cynthia, Dr. McGreevey; her weekday caregiver Maria; and all of her son's colleagues at Fifth Third Bank particularly Matt and Barb.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 19, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in Good Shepherd Church, Pendleton, New York. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga, New York. As Grace requested, there will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations in Grace's memory be made to: Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30,000 E.
