I met George at Camp Turner during the Summer of 1968. An open and caring guy his upbeat demeanor was always on display. He was our “senior starting guard” in Canisius College inter-murals.  When he showed up at the Diocesan Prep 50th Reunion he was the same guy after all these years.

George McNally was my therapist/good friend @ VAMC Buffalo during very difficult times in my life with USCG Service PTSD and on-going Child Custody Case. 

One of  The Finest human beings I've ever known. 

Today, 12/16/2022 I was about to call him (moments ago) only to discover my Solid Friend, George passed 8 months ago. 

I am deeply saddened but I believe George is in Holy Heaven; George helped countless U.S. Veterans (including Me) in countless ways; 1 Good Man +

  

  







  

I just found out that George passed away George did a lot for me and help me through bad times at the VA and also I seen him at his office on Harlem Road he will be I missed dearly God bless you George

Dear McNally Family,
Today I learned of George’s passing. I’m so sad. I want to extend my deepest condolences to you all. George was an amazing therapist. He was kind, compassionate and real. He helped so many people including me. I’ll take the lessons I learned from him with me in life. Over the years that I knew George his love for and commitment to his family was obvious. He spoke fondly about all of you and was a proud husband, father, grandfather and brother. I will miss George very much. I’ll never forget him.

George was my therapist on and off for a few years. Seldom have I ever met men as great as him. I'm most certain that his memory and legacy will live on through more than just the hearts of his families - but also to those who's lives he has so deeply touched. I know for a fact that God has welcomed him in to his kingdom with open arms.

George, I cannot thank you enough for everything you've helped me through. I truly cannot put in to words how much I appreciate you, and will forever hold you in my heart.

To the family; I hope your pain subsides and you can find sanctuary in knowing that George has truly changed the lives of many.

My family has known George for 28 years. He was a counselor, then friend and neighbor. George shared many stories about his family throughout the years and loved people. He was an Angel in disguise and now has taken his place in Heaven where he can watch over all of us. Condolences to his family, you’re in our thoughts and prayers. 

My thoughts and prayers go out to the McNally family. I just learned of George's passing and I am truly saddened. I have known George for 17 years. His advice, support and friendship through the good and bad times in my life are something I will never forget. Rest in peace my friend, I will truly miss our conversations.

I've known George and the McNally family my whole life, having grown up just a few houses from 48. Only the people from that small North Buffalo neighborhood understood all the ins and outs of life there in the 60s. We also shared a love for Allegheny State Park, as teenage camp counselors, and the field of social work and counselling. It meant so much that he came to Barry and my wedding over 23 years ago. When I think of George I see him sitting in his office, always willing to help me with the "Crisis" of the day, not to mention all my friends that I referred over the years for similar assistance. Only COVID could get in the way of me not being at his funeral, and unfortunately, it did. It breaks my heart that George will no longer be in that little office on Harlem Road where room was always made to see me and all who needed him. It will take a long time until I can drive by that building without tears, if ever. He was my friend, my confidant and someone I always thought would be there. George you are part of the story of my life and it is with such sadness, and hope for the everlasting, that you are just a few steps ahead of me on the path toward our next conversation. I send my heartfelt condolences to all the McNally family.

My wife and I are heartbroken to hear of the passing of George. To all his family & friends, our sincerest condolences. 
We hope that you can take comfort in knowing that George touched so many peoples lives through his work. 

My wife was introduced to him through one of her friends and had been working with him for many years. When I was working through some of life’s challenges, George was happy to help me put things into perspective & “get my head back into the game of life”!
He was a positive life force; my term for a person who you were happy to know and made life better.

I had the honor and privilege to work with George at CMG , many years ago . He had a twinkle in his eye , loved to spin a yarn , and talk about the Yankees . He had such compassion , kindness and a great sense of humor . We was so proud of his family. I also had the pleasure of working with Bill at ECMC

I met George 25 years ago during family counseling.  He was fantastic.  George knew what to say to "make things better".  We always left with a smile on our faces. 
And I loved reading his letters to the editors at The Buffalo News.  I would get a good chuckle from his pithy comments and sometimes scream out "Yay, George!  Say it like it is!"
Godspeed, George.  You were well-loved! Thank you for everything!

George will be missed by many- he was always so welcoming and entertaining to everyone. I enjoyed my time with George, Peggy and their family. My deepest sympathy to Peggy, Erin, Mike, Conor & Kaitlyn- I hope your memories of George help bring you peace.

Dear McNally Cousins,
I was truly saddened to learn of George's death. It brought back many of the memories of the times spent at Crescent or Newman while our parents "discussed" the ways of the world, and "not discussing" politics, religion or Travelers.
We've spent our lives travelling different paths but we all share many of the same beginnings.

George was a good man. I was his Social Work supervisor in his final year of his graduate degree and when he showed up at my office door to begin his placement we both did a double take. It was like looking into a mirror. George was a hardworking, dedicated and kind person and thus an immense credit to the Social Work profession and humankind throughout his long career. I am out of town and am very sorry not to attend his memorial service

I worked with George at the VA.  What a special person!  Always a warm smile, an encouraging word, a light moment.  George cared for our nation's Veterans with deep respect, care and compassion.   

I worked with George at the VA. He was one of the first people to teach me the "ropes".  He was always there for advice and was always so kind and helpful. Offering sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. George will be missed!

George and I worked together as colleagues in the Mental Health Clinic at the Buffalo VA Medical Center.  George had a high level of integrity, cared deeply about others, was devoted to his work as a social worker, was a gifted therapist, and had a great sense of humor!  I always enjoyed hearing George's insightful opinions about any given topic.  I also always enjoyed reading his multiple letters to the editor published by the Buffalo News.  He will be missed!  I am very sorry for your loss.

I am deeply saddened to hear of this tremendous loss. I work at the VA and George was a mentor who will always be remembered fondly. He was so wise and very passionate about his work with veterans. I was also lucky to work with his brother, Bill at ECMC...Such  wonderful people who used their talents for helping others in very meaningful ways. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire McNally family.  Rest in the Lord's paradise. 

I remember having conversations with George about patients at the VA and enjoying his sense of humor. He was a great colleague to work with and laugh with. 
I hope the family finds peace as they adjust to the loss of his presence.  

Its been almost 30 years since I first met Mr. George as a teenager. I remeber the first time we met in his office, I was so stubborn, angry and defiant and hell bent on making sure these visits weren't going to last long.  He said something like, it's fine if you don't want to talk, we can just play Nintendo.  After about 3 visits of saying nothing and deflecting all attempts, just playing games, he finally softened me up and we talked.  From then on I have been forever grateful for the gentless, sincerity, compassion and guidance given over the years.  Its probably been 15 years since I last talked and saw Mr. George, but his influence forever opened the doors (and closed others) I needed to receive all the great things life had for me...... It's only those left behind whos hearts break at loss, but I'm sure your family is comforted knowing all the lives you've mended and people who are better becuase they spent with you. Peace be to you in your rest and your family my friend.  Save me a controller, you owe me a rematch!  

Hello, I worked with George for several years at the VA,  and was his supervisor for the last couple of years before he retired.  George was kind, thoughtful and such a pleasure to work with.

Hello, I knew George from his working at the VA, what a nice man who truly cared about helping the Vets.  My deepest condolence for your all.

George was an inspirational counselor.   He helped our "blended" family in so many ways!  His words, kindness, and counseling live with us each day.  30 years later we still say "What would George say".   My words can't express the thankfulness in my heart for all he did for us. I met George about 10 years ago. I would not be the person I am today without him. His patience and kindness will forever be in my heart. He will be missed. Love and well wishes to the family.
