Edwin A. Munschauer Jr.

His wife of 51 years, Marilou Kelley Munschauer, predeceased him on January 3, 1999.

Mr. Munschauer graduated Cornell University in 1939 with an engineering degree and continued a 55 year career at his family’s company, Niagara Machine and Tool Works, founded in 1879, by his grandfather George J. Munschauer. He retired on December 31, 1991 as Executive Vice President and had many patents established throughout his career.

Mr. Munschauer had a lifelong love of water and boats, summering most of his life on the Canadian lakeshore, including Sugarloaf Farm and his beloved home at Abino Hills. He had a series of sailboats and powerboats, culminating with his current ABINO ONE, a Cape Dory 28 trawler that he and his late wife used to cruise the Canadian shore of Lake Erie.

They also traveled extensively through Europe and the Caribbean where they visited many of the islands on various chartered sailboats earning him the Moorings rank of Commodore.

Mr. Munschauer was a Life member Buffalo Canoe Club where he orchestrated the building of the committee boat Burgee V (and was its Captain from its launch in 1972 until the mid-1980’s), as well as the launch Toots.

He was also a longtime member of the Buffalo Yacht Club contributing much of his time and talents to the Club in the 1940’s up thru the present including the building of the barge used to install the docks at the Pt. Abino Station.

He was a member of the Buffalo Club (former Director and 1st Vice President and President of the Friday Noon Club, aka Sailor’s Table), Past President of the University Club of Buffalo and former member of City Club of Buffalo and the Elma Gun Club.

He was a member of Christ the King parish in Snyder and St. George’s parish in Crystal Beach, Ont.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Lorrie) and Stephen (Cynthia), and two grandsons, S. Charles, Jr. and Jeffery Edwin.

Calling hours will be held at Perna Dengler Roberts, 1671 Maple Rd., Williamsville, NY on Thursday September 20, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 am Saturday September 22, 2012 in Christ the King Catholic Church, 2 Lamarck Dr., Snyder.
