Dear Mrs Dee;
I have just read in the Notre Dame Magazine of Dennis' passing and wish to extend to you my sympathy. Denny and I and three other law school classmates resided together and shared so many memorable times- your husband usually leading our activities.
 Denny and I shared many thoughts about our futures as we both knew that after graduation our commitments to the military would eventually place us in Vietnam- Dennis with the Army and my service with the Marines. Dennis  loved this country and was honored to be able to serve this nation.
   He will be missed but God undoubtedly needed some new Irish wit and charm and called upon Dennis "Cool". 
   Tonight when I hit my knees I'll remember Dennis and I'll thank God for allowing me the privilege to have met and associate with your husband  so many years ago. And I shall ask God to grant the soul of Denny eternal peace.

Denny, or Denny Cool as was his proper name, was an Angel, who graced the world with his presence.  He was kind, compassionate, sensitive, and had a way with words, an attribute he attributed to his Irish heritage.  He was intellectually brilliant, giving of himself and his knowledge, and generous to others.  His service to his Country was important to him and meant more than life itself.  He can now be with his beloved twin brother, but still it would have been good if fate had allowed him a few more years.  He still had much to contribute to making the world a better place.

Dana...My deepest sympathy and prayers are with you during your time of sorrow.  So sorry to hear about Dennis.  My thoughts will be with you.

I am so sorry to hear of Dennis' death.  He was a great friend of my brother, John, through St. James School and Canisius HS and was a great attorney for my father, Joe Braun. Twenty years ago, I went through a difficult divorce.  Dennis was kind, helpful and very patient explaining details to me.  He put me at ease during a difficult time.  I'm ever thankful for his being there for me.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.

Dear Dana, Please know that Eka's and my own thoughts are with you and we share in your sorrow over the loss of Dennie. I still remember the days we spent together beginning at St. James Parochial School and on to Canisius HS. Our reunion at the CHS 50th Reunion of the Class of '59 brought all too rare opportunities for us to share old memories -- and new! I would like to express my sympathy on the death of Dennis.  We were together at Canisius High School - I was a year ahead of him.  I had known Dennis through the years as he practiced law.  He was a always an upright and capable lawyer and I will miss his presence.  I hope God will sustain you in your loss.

We will always remember Dennis fondly for his integrity and kindness of heart. The world was better for the time he traveled here with us. We will miss him immensely, but are thankful for the precious time he blessed us with his presence. While we can't be there for the memorial service, please know you are in our thoughts, Dana, and we are surrounding you with Love.

What an amazing man Dennis was, and how valiantly he always fought- for our country, for his health and wellness. He was always so kind- a special "uncle" to the three of us Hess girls.
