Ron was born at home in~near Washington, NC to the late Johnny and Estelle Crisp. He later moved to the Pactolus area where the Crisp Farm still remains today. Ron grew up on the farm helping his mom and dad raise hogs and sell vegetables at the Beaufort County Farmers Market. Ron later joined the Air Force and served his country during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant. He was stationed at Osan Air Force Base in Korea and Stead Air Force Base in Reno NV and drove a refueling truck for aircraft. After being honorably discharged Ron was hired by Home Security Life Insurance Company(now Monumental Life) as an sales agent. Ron retired in 1994. Ron played baseball with the Air Force in Reno, NV and played semi-pro fast pitch softball in the Washington Industrial League. He played right field and batted over 0400 respectively! Ron was a member of the Everetts Christian Church, though his recent health would not allow him to attend services. Ron also served as a member of the Ruritan Club in Stokes in previous years. Ron was a member of the Stokes/Carolina Township Fire Department for 31 years. He was a graduate of StokeslPactolus High School in 1959. He was an current honorary member of the Meadow Branch Dog Hunting Club in Stokes, NC.
He had a passion for a small garden of tomatoes and a few cucumbers .. His biggest love was obviously hunting /fishing and the outdoors ... He, like many young men, grew up fishing and hunting with his father and mother(Grandma was quite the fisherwoman!). When he returned from the military he joined Conoho Gun Club on the Roanoke River in Martin and Bertie County. They would load dogs on a boat to deer hunt while the tears froze on your cheeks. He also was an avid turkey hunter. Later, Ron was one of the original founders of Meadow Branch Dog Hunting Club in Stokes, NC and was a member of Tranter's Creek Dog Hunting Club too. Ron took the largest buck of his career a few years before he lost the ability to hunt on a regular basis on a great friend's property, the late Mr. Tracy Barnhill, Sr. We can still see him grinning now. Ron had a favorite hunting dog named "Sally". "She sure could jump a buck" he always said. Ron's handle on the CB radio when hunting was "Fishman". Ron caught enough herring and rock in the Roanoke River as well as bream in Tranter's Creek to feed an army. He was wicked with his fly rod, cricket bucket, and his Carolina boat. Ron used to spend much of his summers in Hyde County near Engelhard (Gull Rock) at the Crisp Fishing Camp. There he would head out on his 21 'Cobia Condor Boat named the "Little C" for his son and catch many grey trout, flounder, drum and croakers, out on Channel Rock, Benson's Point, Mike's Point, and Brooke's ditch.
Some of Pop's most memorable moments are seeing his grandkids born, killing his big buck, helping Murphy and Paige catch their first fish, seeing Matt kill his deer, seeing Kristin and Matt graduate and in Prom attire, and seeing baby Gracin, baby Autumn and baby Hayden. We all laughed with Pop and he and his beloved Peggy were one of a kind. Ron is survived by his wonderful wife of 24 years, Peggy Beach Crisp that has stood by his side faithfully to care for him. Ron is survived by two brothers, Donnie and Horace Crisp of Washington, NC and two sisters, Lillian Crisp Cowen of Chesapeake, VA and Joyce Crisp Hanes of Delaware which preceded him in death. Ron also is survived by four children: Cameron Crisp and wife Sh of West Virginia, Ricky Beach and wife Ginger, Gail Beach Jones and husband Carr and Brenda Beach Rapin and husband Jim all of Williamston, NC. Ron also had andchildren, Mica Thomas and husband Todd, Chad Beach, Matt Howell, and Kristin Jones all being from Williamston, NC and Murphy, Paige and Autumn Crisp of West Virginia. Ron has two great grandchildren Gracin Beach and Hayden Thomas of Williamston, NC.
Ron "Pop" will be missed! We wish to remember him as he was: a loving husband, a wonderful Dad, and "Pop" to us all. He has happily joined his Mother, Father, and sister again in Heaven and we hope to see him soon in our new life with God.
